MAJOR CLASS— PHOTOGRAPHY
The Photography I: Black & White Film major is offered
both Session 1 & Session 2
Photography students should have strong interests in learning about the camera and visual experience through photography and be able to work well independently.
Photography I enrollment is limited to 12 campers in each session. Total Fee for Photography I Class is $460 An extra $20 fee for photography students covers film development materials and proper chemical disposal. Ilford Delta 400 and 100 film ($5.00 per roll) will be available through the Photography I class at camp. This is an excellent high quality film.
Please be sure that your camera and other equipment are in working order. Check batteries before coming to camp. Batteries are NOT available at the Sugarloaf Student Store.
All applicants for Photography I must have:
- Completed the 7th grade
- Had at least one (1) year experience as a camper at Sugarloaf in another program (Art, Band, Chorale, Theater, Dance or Textile Arts).
- Enrollment in Photography I is limited to 2 years. This class will provide you with instruction and techniques of picture taking, film development, and print enlargement utilizing darkroom film processing with an emphasis on creativity and visual expression. Equipment will be provided for you to enlarge black and white photographs.
Supplies provided by the student:
- One 35mm camera (fully adjustable preferred) with extra batteries. Flash is optional. Please be sure the camera and flash are in good working condition.
- At least five (5) 24-exposure rolls of black and white film. Film will be available for purchase at camp for $5.00 per roll. If you buy your own film, Ilford Delta 400, T-MAX 400, Tri-X 400 are recommended. If you purchase your own film before camp, be sure to NOT get Kodak BW-100 CN, BW-400 CN, or any other “black and white” film that is processed as color film (C41 processing).
