Music

Band and music have such a power to teach life skills, build community, establish mindfulness, and build confidence, alongside the powerful purpose of creating art for the sake of art.

Overview

The Sugarloaf music program is in its sixth decade in the Sierra mountains!

Each session has a different focus with the first offering traditional Concert/Symphonic bands, and Vocal Ensemble.

The second session offers a Jazz focus for the bands and a Vocal Ensemble.

  • First session bands are Intermediate, Concert and Symphonic, with Symphonic the most advanced band.
  • The second session offers beginning Jazz (students must have experience on their instruments), Jazz Band (Intermediate) and Jazz Ensemble, and Vocal Ensemble.
  • Instructors for both sessions include current and former El Dorado County teachers. Each class has two instructors and most majors are conducted outdoors, providing a unique learning environment to campers. Students have the opportunity to learn from new teachers and to play and sing music with campers from schools throughout El Dorado County and beyond. Students work toward the final performance on the last day of camp which is open to the public.
