Students will participate in group projects that require some individual work as well as a group activity. Art majors may participate in elective projects or choose to concentrate on their major area of interest. Preference is given to currently enrolled art students.
|Basic Acoustic Guitar
No previous experience necessary (instrument provided by the student). Limited enrollment.
Open to all brass musicians on their major instrument. This class will allow the student to experience performance in a small ensemble situation, including duets, trios, quartets, and quintets. etc. Campers will explore classical to modern music and will give an informal performance toward the end of the week.
Learn techniques for creating decorative and/or useful items, jewelry, and various art projects. Beginners and experienced crafters are welcome.
Introduction to dance movements. Students need to bring loose clothing in which to move freely and shoes with flexible soles. Limited enrollment.
Students will work on improving their strength, flexibility, and jazz dance technique while learning a fun dance routine.
Like to harmonize? This small, unaccompanied, vocal ensemble will sing a variety of tunes from pop songs to Elizabethan rounds.
Students who already have basic guitar skills looking to add to their skills with more advanced techniques and songs.
|Introduction to Jazz Improvisation
Open to all students wishing to learn how to improvise. Instruction will include chordal structure and scale usage. All players must be able to read basic music notation.
The elective is structured into 2 levels – Beginning and Intermediate. Both levels come together to learn Jazz History and listen to classic recordings of the jazz greats.
Open to musicians who play a jazz appropriate instrument, or one that can be integrated (examples: alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, trumpet, trombone, drumset, bass guitar, guitar, keyboard. also possible: flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, baritone bass clef, tuba). Musicians will play a variety of jazz charts and learn about improvisation for solos on their instruments. Campers will give an informal performance toward the end of the week.
|Learn Another Band Instrument
Open to all musicians wishing to learn another band instrument. STUDENT MUST PROVIDE THE INSTRUMENT and materials necessary to play it. CAMPERS MUST LIST THE INSTRUMENT THEY WISH TO LEARN on the application. Students will receive individualized and small group instruction on the handling and playing of the instrument they wish to learn. If a different clef for music reading is required, that will also be taught. Campers have the option of giving an informal performance toward the end of the week.
“Workshopping” an original piece…an on-your-feet, write-it-and-try-it class.
The Acting elective will workshop with a small, advanced group of students to fine-tune the principles of theater and hone individual skills. The class is designed for those with prior theater experience (2 years+) but is NOT limited to Theater majors. No age requirement.
Session 1 choose ONE of two groups:
Devising: For advanced improv campers who have Improv experience. This group will put together a short piece to share using devising and improv techniques.

Exciting Theater electives will be added at camp, based on staffing. Sign up for this if you want a Theater elective but aren’t sure which one.
Open to all levels of ukulele players, beginners through advanced. Students must bring their own uke: soprano, concert, or tenor-sized (not baritone). Instruction will be provided in chords, rhythm patterns, strumming and picking techniques, melody playing and reading tablature.
